演講摘要:
Since the public launch of ChatGPT in late 2022, AI has rapidly moved from specialist discourse into everyday conversation. In my talk, I first show with digital-trace data how occupational background and associated skills have both shaped when people first engage with ChatGPT and their stance toward it. Second, drawing on survey and experimental studies conducted in Europe, the US, and Taiwan, I map how risk perceptions and support for governance measures diverge across domains—electoral campaigning, government services, and controversies over AI deployments. Finally, I highlight that attitudes toward AI remain nascent and thus highly sensitive. High-profile AI model failures and even the labels we apply to the technology can affect public perceptions.
