Feedback on 2023 Summer EMI Course "Mixed Methods Research"

The summer EMI course "Mixed Methods Research" at the Institute of Health Behaviors and Community Sciences, NTU, unfolded on the last two days of summer vacation. Dr. Su-I Hou from the University of Central Florida along with 20 master's and doctoral students from various fields engaged in discussions. The course introduced the recent trends of mixed methods research (MMR), covering from research characteristics, motivations, types of research, to sharing research experiences and literature critique and guiding students to explore MMR’s development.

At the end of the two-day English course, both the instructors and students gathered to share feedback and suggestions, expressing that they worried about the difficulty of absorbing the content or facing language barriers that might hinder them from speaking up.However, once they attended the course, they found it to be much more accessible than they had imagined. Each class included group discussions, allowing students to clarify their doubts.

Professor Su-I Hou and the Institute of Health Behaviors and Community Sciences also plan to offer an advanced MMR workshop in the upcoming year, delving deeper into the concepts and applications of qualitative mixed methods. They will also guide students in practical MMR research and writing.
