On the May 1st, 2019, the Director of the Institute of Health Behaviors and Community Science (HBCS), Prof. Duan-Rung Chen, invited Prof. Shenglin Elijah Chang to give a lecture of career life.
Prof. Shenglin Elijah Chang from the Graduate Institute of Building and Planning (GIBP) shared her rich and diverse career life during the speech, from a dancing artist to community development, and from self-identity to the social service provision. Her sharing provided students an unconventional lecture and the no-limited blueprint for future development.
Prof. Chang shared her inner transformation through the experience as a dancer and tea farmer. She considered career roles are just one form of role playing. Only identifying personal value could coordinate one’s self and go one’s own way. During the period served in GIBP, Prof. Chang led the teachers and students from different field to Pinglin District, trying to reach the goal of environmental protection and sustainable development through building mutual trust with the residents, connecting social networks and promoting the flow of resources. The most impressive part of the speech was how making the resources flow could facilitate the development of remote townships and villages. . Through the experience of Prof. Chang, we gained a lot about how to better imagine and plan our future. It also pushed us to think about how we could apply the wisdom we learned in the communities as the student of HBCS.
